How to Prepare for Your Session

As a photographer, I always try to bring the best out of my clients and create photos that they can’t wait to show off to everyone! But, it is necessary to point out that to achieve success in photoshoots both the photographer and the client need to be ready. In other words, both sides need to be willing to collaborate to make MAGIC! That is why I encourage my clients to prepare for their session as best as they can.

Here are a few photoshoot tips that will help you come prepared for your photoshoot and expect to get the photographs you have imagined.

  1. Opt for Neutral-Colored Clothing

When figuring out how to prepare for a photoshoot clothing-wise, know that you will never go wrong with neutral colors, ever! Simply, these kinds of hues go with everything, so you do not have to worry about matching the background or the surroundings. However, you should wear something that makes you feel confident and aligned with your style, leading to a more relaxed mood in front of the camera. This way, your photos will turn out more natural and candid. This is the ultimate goal during photo sessions!

  1. Punctuality is Everything

Another rule in preparing for a photoshoot is being on time, especially when they take place outdoors (I can't rewind sunset friends). To prepare for your session means considering time as well. For instance, if you establish a certain time frame for your shoot in an attempt to use the beauty of the sunset in your photos, then being punctual is a must. Otherwise, you lose opportunities for spectacular photos.

The same goes for studio time as well. When you book a particular studio for your shoot, start on time to make the most of it. Remember that extraordinary shots do not happen on the first try. They happen when you finally feel natural in front of the lens and unleash your full potential.

  1. Consider Bringing Snacks and Toys to Keep Children Engaged

If you are getting ready for a photoshoot that includes your kiddos, think about what will keep them busy. Since sessions can take a lot of time, children can get restless and bored. So, you need to have something that will take their attention for some time. Toys and snacks are proven to work, so I always recommend my clients take some when they prepare for their session. This way, both you and them will be more relaxed and able to experiment in front of the camera. Plus, the photographs will turn out more natural!

  1. Maternity Photoshoot Props Are Essential

Bringing props to your session is one of the most convenient photoshoot tips, especially when it comes to maternity photographs. They will enrich your shots and make them more interesting. You can include everything related to your pregnancy, such as ultrasound pictures, baby shoes, and onesies. One of my favorite props are flowers.

  1. Photoshoot Prep for Outdoor Sessions Includes Minding the Weather

When trying to figure out how to prepare for a photoshoot that’s outdoors, think about the weather. Besides clothing, it is essential to consider the weather conditions during your session. For instance, if it is very hot, hello we live in Texas, do not leave your home without water. You can also consider changing your clothes if possible. Most of my packages include 2 outfit options and I do have a pop-up tent that I can bring for you to change in.

To put it briefly, to have a flawless photoshoot, being prepared is a must! But there’s nothing you need to worry about! Even if being in front of a camera feels the same level as scary as walking through a haunted house, I will do my best to help you feel comfortable and make you fearless, flirty and fun. With my tips on how to prepare for your session, you’ll have mantel-worthy pictures!
